Tufferman + KHAOS Control Multi-Channel Software

Domestic and Industrial storage retailer Tufferman are a young business based in Chelmsford, Essex, founded by Richard Grundle and Luke Barlow.

With rapid growth the company needed to invest in a scalable ERP system that would not only meet the current needs of the business, but also its future requirements; such as drop shipping, additional carriers and accounts functionality.

The team at Tufferman had experience of implementing new systems and the issues that it can cause operationally if not done right, so finding a vendor with the right implementation approach and excellent ongoing support was imperative.

Also high up on the list was that the solution they went for needed to be tried and tested. The team sat through numerous demonstrations of comparable systems, but settled on Khaos Control after an exhaustive selection process.  This included working with existing customers in order to get a real feel for how both the system and, just importantly, the company performed over time.

The Business Challenge

Tufferman needed a reliable ERP system to tie in the various customer-facing and operational elements of their business, whilst providing them with the flexibility to grow the business rapidly.

This included:

  • Integrating their various sales channels, which included eCommerce, MoTo and a number of marketplaces;
  • Taking the hassle out of their courier management;
  • Integrating payments;
  • Implementing a controlled and scalable drop-ship process;
  • Allowing Tufferman’s pick, pack and despatch process to include components as well as finished items.

The Solution

Tufferman went live with Khaos Control in September 2015, with an aggressive implementation timeline. A large amount of data import and system configuration was seamlessly carried out before the go-live date, resulting in a smooth transition to the new system and processes.

Since September, Tufferman have seen a significant increase in turnover and profit and Khaos Control has allowed them to:

  • Fully integrate their eCommerce websites and Marketplaces. Orders from Tufferman’s Magento website feed seamlessly into their back office, ready for picking and it’s the same story with their marketplace and telephone orders.  This allows for better planning and time management in the warehouse and has reduced the number of days from taking an order to despatch.
  • With a wide range of ‘ugly’ freight and complex pricing options, having a system that automatically selects the appropriate courier, calculates and confirms the appropriate charge for the customer and is able to produce labels for all of the major couriers that Tufferman work with has revolutionised the despatch process.
  • Being able to integrate payments has resulted in savings in terms of efficiency on both processing new orders and on dealing with customer exchanges and refunds, when necessary. Just as importantly, it also means that orders with payment issues are caught before the warehouse can process them, which results in further savings.
  • Being able to drop-ship orders easily and consistently was a key element of Tufferman’s on-going strategy and they now have a system in place which allows them to do just that, automatically raising purchase orders as sales orders are imported / created and allowing them to stay on top of the process and ensure that the customer enjoys a seamless experience.
  • Componentry picking is key for Richard, Luke and the team, due to the nature of the goods they are working with. Being able to pick, pack and despatch components as well as finished products means that they are not hamstrung by the system, but can pick flexibly and efficiently as the situation requires.
